slow send automation but just with nanokontrol2

MessageAuthor

Hey people, i have a crazy problem: In the actions list i learned "adjust send volume" with my nanokontrol2. In trim/read mode everything works as expected an smooth without latency. If i change to write mode the automation is very slow and jumpy and not usable. I tried the lowest buffer size my soundcard provides, but it didnt cure the problem. i also tried "prevent anticipative fx" - didnt work. Now the crazy thing: If i learn the send volume with my 10 year old m-audio oxygen the automation is smooth in trim/read mode and write mode. whats going on here? i already changed the usb-cable and looked for the settings under midi devices. any hints are apperciated! EDIT: After reinstalling the midi drivers and updating the firmaware of the nanokontrol2 nothing changed... Watching the performance meter when turning a knob on the nanokontrol which controls the send volume i can see a cpu consumption of nearly 50%!!! This is with 2 tracks, no vsts and in write, latch or touch mode! When controling the send with the oxygens knobs the cpu is low as expected.

ok, i put a reamidicontrol on the channel to monitor the midi values and recognized the following: if i turn the knob completely to the right and back again i get - 230 values with the nanokontrol -10 values with the oxygen of course the resolution is by far worse with the oxygen, but its enough for my needs. is it possible to reduce the number of midi values the nanokontrol transmits?

you tried other usb ports too right? from what you describe though i'd lean toward it being a problem with the midi controller itself. check it's manual for any different usb/midi modes and try them. under midi devices (reaper prefs( make sure you have only the minimum ins and outs enabled to get your desired results. nanokontrol may provide several of each, but you probably don't need them all at once in reaper. also right click the inputs in MIDI devices and try the different timestamp modes. these are just general tips, hopefully someone with your same gear will be able to help more. if you want some technical insight into exactly what midi data is being exchanged, you can try the free app midi-ox. it's a bit complicated at first, but has good instructions and not hard to learn.

Thanks for your suggestions! The editor of the nanokontrol doesnt allow any modifications of the midi resolution. i also tried the different timestamp modes under the midi prefs. I think the problem is how reaper handles send automation. The automation of other parameters works without any problems. The use of reasendcontrol eleminates the lag with automation, but to be honest i don't like the idea of using another plugin just for send automation and there are other flaws that make it not very good to use.. maybe i find another workaround
