My Volvo Amazon Needs your help!

Hello everyone, this is my first post on this forum and I hope you will be able to help me out or give me some good advice. First off, my name is Kim and I have a 1961 Volvo Amazon. She goes really well, except, twice the car has lost power and cut out. The first time was on a hot sunny day and I was driving back from ipswich. And the second time, just driving around normal roads but I was pushing her a bit as I had just put on new air filters. What happens is as I am driving, the car starts to pull back or hesitate. When I push the accelerator right to the floor she splutters and then speeds up again but sometimes cuts out. I have replaced the Air Filters, Fuel line - from the fuel pump to the carbs, the fuel filter and a radiator flush and new water. I am scared to take her out anywhere now as I have 2 small children and really don't want to be stranded with them. Any ideas anyone??? Kim X

Hi Kim & welcome! I'm not an expert on such matters, but it sounds like fuel starvation to me. However there are plenty of other Amazon fanatics who will be able to help & offer advice etc on how to solve this. We have a dedicated tech section for Amazons Don't be afraid of using your car daily. Mine is my only transport (bicycle & feet not included...) & despite in 13 years of use in my family has proven itself to be very dependable & highly practical. There are few (if any other) cars of this age which cope so well with modern daily useage :) All the best, Paul
